General Comments

I do not recommend Virgin Media.

I have used four isps and Virgin.com have been the worst I personally have experienced, in my opinion by a mile.

The fundamental problem is that they are too popular as far as I am concerned. Why should that matter? Because there is a key specification that no isp likes to highlight and that is your contention ratio. The contention ratio tells you how many people you will be competing with for the available bandwidth on your node. In my case it is 10 and that means I get useless speeds at peak time as far as I am aware. I cannot watch Youtube, I cannot download anything and I can barely view static webpages as far as I am concerned!

I was supposed to get 16Mb, which is 32 times more than I had before but in reality, at peak times, this service in my experience has been worse than the one I had with narrowband.

So understand this, the topline bandwidth that they all like to talk about is completely irrelevant as far as I am concerned - the contention ratio, which they do not talk at all and which is buried in the small print about is everything.

Now you know that, and now you know that Virgin have your competition all maxed out to the point where there is effectively NO SERVICE between 4pm and 1am, and all day during the weekend you know to NOT BUY FROM THIS PROVIDER. Unfortunately I have months left on my contract with these jokers and there is no way for me to get away from them. But you are in a better position than that in my opinion.

I repeat, I do not recommend Virgin Broadbant internet provider.
