Easy to see many fares and companies at once
For hotels (and especially for AAA members), it is usually cheaper to get a booking through the company itself.
They have horrible customer service.
When flying out of LAX for a wedding, there was some confusion regarding my flight booked through Expedia and no one at the US Airways counter would help me. I finally found Expedia's customer service number, called them and, by this point, had missed my flight (partially due to US Airways not helping). Expedia's attitude was essentially "it's not our fault, too bad for you." I was patched through to a manager, told they were busy and it would take a some time before I could speak with the manager. I ended up on hold for over an hour before my call was dropped. I did call back, they were once again extremely rude and kept telling me it was my fault, not theirs, Finally, they agreed to give me a $100 voucher for a hotel room to replace the $100 I had to spend to get my ticket changed (side note: Delta ended up being incredibly, incredibly helpful even though I was not flying with them). The $100 voucher, despite what I was told (and requested be confirmed over the phone), was to be used only for a long-term Expedia vacation package with several restrictions on it. Needless to say, it will not be used.
I used to fly regularly and have had my share of mishaps. This is the first time I have received such horrible service from two different organizations. While I chalk up US Airways to incompetence, Expedia was outright unprofessional.
