General Comments

Our family dog, Ruben, who is just over a year now is a lovely dog!!! He is so soft and gentle the only thing bad about him is when he has hyper moments he will get very scatty and jump and bark at you. Does anyone who has a highly strung Doberman have any tips for curing him of jumping and he also pulls a lot on the lead. The main problem is separation anxiety, can any one help us as this is the 1st MALE dog we have had in the family. We had a female a few years ago. Can anyone give us any tips??

I have got a 2 year old doberman, who suffered anxiety separation, but i have managed to cure it, i started of by leaving her for very short periods of time, and every time i leave the house i say to her 'going to the shops be a good girl' i would just pop out for 10 mins then gradually leaving it longer so then she knew i was always coming back to her, it really did work. Hope this is of some help for any one that has this separation problem.

    hi there
a good cure for jumping up is to ignore him until he calms down. also, for pulling i would say a combination of choke collar and a halter, so when he doesn't pull, he is only on the halter, which is very comfortable for them and when he pulls, just a quick tug on the choker. this may seem harsh, but it is only necessary a few times, then you can go out with just the halter. separation anxiety is a difficult one, we've had trouble for a while. plenty of toys and being left in a secure outdoor area in warm weather are two things, just leave something to keep him occupied if you can. one of my friend's dogs is only comforted by leaving the telly on! some like the radio, so they can hear a human voice. hope this helps :)
