I travelled with my son on BA from Rome to the notorious Heathrow Terminal Five on Sunday 30th March 2008. That flight was delayed by just over two hours. On arrival at Heathrow there was chaos. We'd missed our connecting flight to Aberdeen and around 11pm having stood in various queues we were bussed to an airport hotel with no cases, as they were 'in the system somewhere'. The buffet was still open but was cold and practically inedible. As we both had appointments to keep the following day, we were booked onto the 7.15am flight. I received an unasked for wake up call at 2.30am, then again at 5.30am to catch the flight north. Staff at Terminal five tried to assist, but many said it was their first day, and had to ask instructions from others. Many were learning 'on the job' and systems repeatedly crashed. In Rome, Terminal Five was described to us as 'a complete shambles'. Maybe you could go via Amsterdam if need be.
