General Comments
this game is simply amazing. the game consists of three discs of pure quality. it is full of adventure, puzzles, interactions with a wide range of characters and a mindblowing storyline. as soon as you start playing this game you will be instantly hooked. you can play this game for hours on end and still be glued to the screen, maybe even a full day.
although there is not a difficulty setting at the beginning of the game you can choose your own difficulty. you could whizz through the game say only taking 45 hours to complete and without doing anything really challenging. to get the fullest out of this game though you should explore the game to find secret weapons, material and characters. You can also find extra bits to the storyline.
In this game there are many sub games. you can go and bet on chocobo's or even when you get to a certain stage on the 2nd disc you can raise your own chocobo's. by doing this you can make a gold chocobo which not only kicks ass at chocobo racing but can go anywhere on the map and can cross mountains, rivers and even oceans. you can play in the wonder square at all kinds of games some of these are only available when you get to certain stages in the game. also you can go to a battle arena and get prizes for battle points if you are really good you can pick up some great prizes. as well as these things which are in an area called gold saucer there are lots of mini tasks to solve for people which again you get goodies for.
you start off in the thick of the action. you play a mercenary called cloud that used to work for the supreme company in the game (shinra) for the army, you think he was an elitist soldier first class but you find out later that this was all a lie. this company have been sucking up mako energy to create money but whilst doing this they have been destroying the planet. you start off in the thick of the action. you are working for a terrorist organisation called avalanche. The leader of this is called barret who is one of the main characters. At first it appears that Cloud doesn't care about anyone but himself. He really only carries on at first because he gets Aeris involved who he ends up falling in love with. He then only carries on to settle a personal vendetta against your main enemy Sephiroth who burnt down his home town and killed his mum. Aeris is a key character in this game she ends up getting killed at the end of the first disc and you can definetely feel an empathy towards Cloud.
The other enemies in this game are the shinra. You encounter Rufus the leader of shinra after the president gets killed by sephiroth and you encounter the turks a great deal who do a lot of dirty jobs, murder, kidnapping etc.
To challenge yourself on this game you should try to defeat ruby and emerald weapons. These are very difficult to beat and you will have to do this far on in the game when you have collected the best materia and weapons. These monsters are optional so if you don't like high difficulty just skip them out. After defeating these the final boss is pretty easy and you should have no trouble defeating him.
The graphics on this game aren't absolutely amazing but they're ok. The sound is good and adds to the feeling of the game and the gameplay is unbeatable. Even if your not a fan of RPG's you should still have a great time on this game.
