Good Points

It made very good DVDs, with few glaring digital artefacts. The hard drive feature was far more convenient than just a plain recorder. I could get to bed earlier, and still watch & record onto DVD, movies or show I wanted to see.

Bad Points

No 16:9 DVDs could be made. Complete failure of the DVD drive after 18 months, requiring 81% of the new purchase price to repair - I declined this chance to throw money away again. Total lack of customer service from the retailer. Panasonic offered to sort it out, but as the retailer had dumped it, they couldn't.

General Comments

Why on earth would any sane person spend a lot of money on a product that only lasts 18 months, and which the manufacturer and retailer will not support?

The Panasonic DMR-EH50 was good while it lasted, but it wasn't long enough (sounds like my relationships - er...).

I have since spoken to several people whose Panasonic DVD recorders have failed within a short period. Sony or Pioneer seem much more reliable.
