Sligtly more spacious seats.
Plane was delayed, poor food, poor under staffed service, lost baggage.
I flew emirates Feb this year, flying from Manchester to Dubai, where we were joining a cruise. I could have booked the cruise and flights as a package deal, however this would have meant a transfer at Amsterdam and as my husband is suffering from a terminal illness, I decided to not cut corner and fly emirates as I had heard good reports, although this cost an extra £600.
Firstly we were delayed at Manchester for 4.5 hours, which the reason given was engine problems. When we did fianally board it soon became clear that the delay was more likely due to staff shortages, which is something we later found out.
The service was appauling. We were served frozen egg salad, that when I complained to the Air Steward, he first looked at me like he couldn't understand my problem and then went on to tell me " it was due to the delay and that the salad had been kept in the ice tray for longer than expected". That aside I told him it was impossible to eat it, to which he replied ' it will defrost'. All I could do was laugh. I laughed even more when someone else complianed about the frozen egg salad too and was told "it's because it is so cold outside"....What????!!!
And these comedy come backs just got better - when someone declined another cup of tea because the first was cold, he told her " Thats because you had milk in it".
I needed to press the call service button a number of times in the flight and on 5 out of the 7 times I did this, no one came. Most the times I did call it was alert them that our TV's had broke and on one occassion it took 45 mins for them to reset my daughters TV.
When were disembarking the aircraft the Steward did ask my Husband what he thought of the flight to which he replied in so many words, "not much". This is when the Steward told us that they had, had 5 people phone in sick. I mean these things do happen, however if they had been honest from the start I'm sure they would have got a lot more patience from people. We spoke to a few people after the flight and all agreed that the service was terrible.
Then to top it off when we did get to Dubai 4.5 hours late, they then lost our luggage for 2.5 hours and when we did receive it, it was covered in some sticky liquid. By that point I couldn't even be bothered complaining, we just wanted to get out of the airport and get to the hotel I had booked for one night and that we finally arrived at at 6.30am.
When i came home I tried to find a compliants address for Emirates but could not find one anywhere and after looking on the net I notice a few other people have had the same problem.
Whilst we were waiting for our luggage at Dubai, I did get talking to an Emirates Air Hostess who told me the flight was also delayed for 5 hours the day before and that losing luggage is a regulary thing for Emirates in Dubai.
So to end I would ask everyone to be cautious before booking and Emirates flight. I always finding it very worrying when its so hard to complain to a company.
