Small main unit with glossy sleek finish, Superb upscaling picture, Tiny easy to hide Surround Speakers
The piano black finish attracts dust.
Matched with a top end screen and stand the Sony DAV-IS10 unit looks sleek and stylish yet still delivers a full cinema experience. The discreet surround speakers being easily mountable and not imposing.
The 1080i upscaling gives a fluid, vivid picture and the 5.1 sound is exceptional.
The quantity of connections is also not an issue if you want a discreet A/V centre, you have got connections for sound from your TV, Sky and games console, what more do you need?
Different DVDs give widely varying sound, music DVD's and CDs being generally louder than films. I have the system in a room about 15 x 16, on a music DVD you start to hear sound with the volume set to 20, ambient volume being around 45, at 65 you have to shout to be heard above the music, anything above that is still clear and precise and you start to feel the bass (above this point even my kids shout for me to turn it down).
I don't have an issue with the volume levels as I am not expecting sound equivalent to separates with large speakers. For normal viewing I have the volume set to 55, and for viewing DVD's when I want the full cinema experience I turn the volume up to between 65 and 70 (louder than at the cinema) and get room shaking effects (Titanic in the boiler room).
If you want a system that is intended to give you better sound than that of your TV with the addition of surround sound, fit in nicely to the room and give you an authentic cinema experience then this is it. If you want a surround system that rattles the windows then you will have to sacrifice the neat little speakers and get something bigger. At RRP I'd have to say this system is not good value for money but if you can get it for less than 400 pound it's a fantastic buy.
