Been a Halifax customer for nearly 10 years with no problems, until now!
I require an original bank statement dated within the last 3 months for proof of income and outgoings for a loan (with another organisation). The last statement sent by Halifax is nearly 6 months old as my account was set up with yearly hard copy bank statements (not of my doing!).
Requested a statement using telephone banking 14 days ago, at no point during automated system does it advise you it 'should' take 5-7 working days. As a back-up I visited my branch to ask for a back office copy (apparently a standard service for most banks, not Halifax!). They were unable to help, they could list a dates and values but no indication of which is salary, mortgage, council tax etc, what is what I require. Time and time again Halifax state 'well you do get statements via the internet'. This is not an original copy and will not be accepted by other insitutions as proof of your financal situation!
The upshot of the whole thing is that 14 days on, 4 request so far using telephone banking, a visit to branch, an order requested by my branch and an order ordered by their complaints department I have still not been sent an original copy. Once you or they press the button to print out a statement the request goes off into a black hole with nobody able to tell me if its waiting to be printed, printed or sent out.
I am all for being environmentally friendly and reducing paper but surely asking for a printed statement should not be so difficult. Their customer service and complaints department say there is nothing more they or I can do! A request to their complaints department to send one recorded delivery was met with "That would mean someone here having to go the post office", doesn't an organisation as large as Halifax have a post room to deal with these requirements!!!
I am begining to think its all a ploy to stop you going to other banks for loans - of course each time they ask why I need it they are happy to offer me their loan, at a much higher interest rate!
