General Comments

After my Kodak DC25 went belly up on holiday I was all set on buying a new camera. Having known about Fuji's reputation, and wanting a camera with a larger optical zoom, I opted for the Fuji Finepix 2800. There is nothing quite like it (or its replacement) on the market at the moment. The 2800 still looks like a real camera and it really is a fantastic looking camera in the flesh.

There is nothing really to be said about the picture quality other than it is absolutely superb. I have printed images, captured at medium settings, on full A4 with no degredation. Unless you intend to do serious proofing work there is no need to go much higher than 2 megapixel. Fuji supply exif software with the unit which is adequate for organising, printing (with excellent results) and simple clean up tasks of your images. If you want more control then you are better of with high end software such as illustrator of PSP.

The 6x zoom is what sets this camera apart from the competion. Its so much easier being able to zoom into a shot as aposed of having to get closer to your subject to fill the frame. Without shelling out serious money for a true SLR you aren't going to find a better zoom camera at this money.

Low light images are of a good quality both inside and out. The flash is harsh at close quaters but otherwise ok. In very low light there is nothing displayed on either the LCD or EVF. This is the only drawback of the EVF and can be frustrating. As a result taking pictures can end up as a bit of a hit and hope affair.

The movie mode is ok and is usuable for web puposes only. The 2800 also captures voice captions but it is a feature I don't tend to use as it eats up memory.

In all this is a brilliant camera and although now two years old it can still hold its own against the competition. My friend paid over £500 for his 5 megapixel camera but prefers this camera to his because of the optical zoom.

I bought the camera in June for £200 from internet cameras direct. At the time I purchased the fuji case and two 64mb memory cards. I also purchase a set of rechargable nickel metal hydride batteries which is an absolute must and I will probably buy another set after christmas.
