Fast/good processor for price (P4 2.6GHz!!)
Reasonable 40Gb hard drive.
Good price.
Good value for money.
Slot drive for CDs and not a draw (one less thing to break!)
Paint work does fade after a while. Some bodywork can seem a little weak/flimsey at times. BIG heat sink/fan at the back and underneath. Kicks out enough heat to compete with a radiator! Quite low battery performance with its heat and power hungrey systems. System performance can degrade when very hot after time. Best to get it checked out if it starts to overheat.
This Advent 7012 is a great laptop for people who are buying their first laptop. its a generally good laptop, does the job and does not let you down where every other PC doesn't. Wherever it goes wrong it is joined by every other laptop! Common problems are the screen flickering, paint work fading after heavy use, weak battery degrading performance, faulty CD drive. But then again these are common problems for most laptops. Doesn't have the most branded components, such as the graphics card (SiS 650) which does mean compatibility with some games is hard. It does however have a 1394 Firewire net adapter, a kensington lock and an S-Video port at the back. After a battery upgrade and new heat sink system mine keeps chugging onwards without looking back. Only problems coming with it are mainly Windows based! For a great all rounder that does the job with no fancy extras or over-priced brands this is a great notebook.
Colour/style/size/shape are also very good with its silver, black and white colour scheme.
