General Comments

Took out tesco home insurance last year after good reports from friends. In January this year I had to make a claim for my television which was 51/2 years old but top of the range at the time. Thursday phoned the helpline who took the details, they said they would have to ring back to arrange a telephone interview. After calls from myself they rang back the following Thursday to arrange an interview at 9am on Monday. Monday 9.20 they rang took the same details and said someone would be in touch to arrange collection of the item to check for any technical fault CIIS (technical people) phoned Friday for collection on Monday between 12 and 2. Sat waiting 2 o'clock came and went so phoned them at 2.15 to make sure someone was still coming VERY RUDE and SARCASTIC "lady" answered to say that "we do not arranged set time appointments and the gentleman in question would be here before 5" I tried pointing out that i was told that it was set time and she preceded to tell me I was lying and started getting quite rude.... anyway he eventually turned up at around 3.45 (school run times I might add!) took a couple of photos and went away saying that because of the broken screen and the weight of the TV then he would have to leave it "health and safety reasons" but CIIS should have enough info to make a report but if not then I would have to hold on to the TV and arrangements would be made to pick it up!!!!! now normally I'm not a complainer or pesterer but I've 3 kids 5 and under and what about our health and safety? pointed this out to tesco who inall fairness said that if CIIS have enough info then it is not unreasonable that the item be placed outside covered as best as possible. After phoning tesco everyday for almost 2 weeks it was established that a report had been written that "the extensive damage to the screen needs to be investigated" and that this type of TV is prone to technical problems. The nice lady from tesco then said that they would check to make sure that this set was not faulty at the time of accident (which I might add it was not) I mentioned that unless these people were so good they could tell that from the photo then they will have to come (again) to collect the TV. She was quite perturbed by this as she was under the impression that it had been picked up 2 weeks earlier otherwise how could they write an accurate report!!! So now I'm waiting for them to come again ,it appears that they have had a bit of a rocketing because in the space of 24 hours I had 2 phone calls and a letter requesting I contact them otherwise it may affect my insurance claim, not mentioning the fact that because of their incompetence my claim will have been delayed almost a month. Lets see what happens next but so far from my experience I certainly won't be renewing my home insurance with TESCO

Hi going through the same as you have described just wondering if you have had an outcome yet?

eventually tesco decided to go ahead and settle the claim (before CIIS even decided to collect the TV), they said it was because the claim had been going on so long, so they told me someone would contact me and arrange a new TV set. CIIS complete incompetents, when they found out that the claim had been settled they didn't even want to collect the TV!!! The replacement TV nowhere near the value of the old one, they only replace like for like so any "up grades" etc you will have to pay extra for so they replaced a £2000 TV with a £500 set, and I had to pay the £100 excess for the privilege, altogether took around 5 months for the claim to be settled.
