When bad weather in New York canceled flights before the last weekend in February, AirTran Airways did a horrendous job of accommodating and communicating with passengers whose flights had been canceled. An agent told us that she'd be able to book us on a flight on Sunday (original flight was Friday), but we'd have to connect. However, when the confirmation e-mail came, the connecting flight was actually on Tuesday; the computer automatically bumped us because the flight was already full (despite what the customer service rep told us). Being on vacation with limited Internet access, we did not see this e-mail until the following morning -- and the change (from Sunday to Tuesday) was not conspicuous at all -- it is by my sheer perceptiveness that I noticed this significant change. We called AirTran to report this issue and they were not helpful at all -- we ended up having to drive 10 hours further north to fly home on a different airline. Absolutely terrible experience with this low-cost airline. BEWARE: from our experience, it's clear that AirTran doesn't treat customers with the same standards as major airlines do--and they clearly can't communicate highly important information.
