General Comments

I joined Cannons West Byfleet in Jan 07 and after a few months I was made redundant. I called the Club to ask them if I could cancel my membership. They said no. I asked them if there was a way I could freeze it and they categorically said under no circumstances could I cancel it. In Dec 07, a month before my 1 year contract was due to end, I called the club to ask if I needed to do anything to cancel my membership, or would it just expire. They said I had to give 30 days notice. I wrote to them on 31st Dec 07 to cancel the membership that expired on 31st Jan 08. They say they never received the letter until 5th Jan 08, therefore I would have to pay for another months membership at the cost of '£70. As I am pregnant, my Husband called the General Manager at the Club to tell them that they would have received the letter on the 2nd Jan 08, and as the 1st Jan was a Bank Holiday, they should accept the notice I had given them. They said they didn't receive it until 5th Jan, although we asked for proof, and are still waiting for the proof. He asked for someone Senior in Cannons to refer the matter to, and was given the Area Managers name. Needless to say, after 4 telephone calls to him, there was no phone call back. My Husband then went on to find the Chief Executive's name and tried to contact him. He got through to his PA, who promised him a call back. It didn't happen. After a few more telephone calls, he finally got a call back from the Area Manager saying - get this!!! "The Chief Executive is far too busy to talk to people about such unimportant issues". He might as well have said "We don't give a damn about our customers, we'll just take your money thank you very much. he even went on to say that it didn't make a difference whether or not your wife is pregnant and suffering stress, you still have to pay. he was very rude and unhelpful and in the meantime I have received a letter from a debt collecting agency requesting the money. There are so many health clubs in this area, you would think that they would need to keep their customers. Don't go to Cannons.
