chancedub's Review of Barclays Bank

Overall Rating
- Telephone Banking

- Local Branch

- Customer Service

- Internet Banking

- Cash Point Facility

Prompt service most of the time. When there is a queue, I'm always thanked for waiting. Good, solid current accounts. Helpful staff who offered the best they could.
Bad Points
By no means perfect - online banking is dated and needs to be updated.
General Comments
In reading all of the Barclays Bank reviews, one thing seems to stick out - people don't seem to understand how their products work, they haven't read their small print, or they are simply the very definition of indignant: upset at what they PERCEIVE to be poor treatment.
One of the big complaints seems to be the issue of telephoning the local branch. I too had this problem - until I just went in to my local Oxfordshire branch and asked about it. The personal banker politely explained that there are branch telephone numbers, and immediately gave me one of his business cards with said number on it. He explained that branch staff focus on the customers in branch, rather than those phoning in, so that the customers in branch receive the best service they can there, rather than spending their time on the phone checking balances. He further explained that there is a formal telephone banking system, based in the UK, which can deal with any queries I had. He registered me then and there. So, having gone in to lodge a complaint, I left with a direct number to the branch, telephone banking passcodes on the way, and a booklet on other ways they could help with remote banking (online etc).
Otherwise, their products have great features and are easy to understand. When I visited branch, I was offered one of their paid for accounts, as it could help save me money on my overdraft and breakdown cover. The banker, this time a young lady, walked me through the product, explained any questions I had, and then explained how I could cancel and get my money back if I wasn't happy.
My only complaint with Barclays is their savings rates - it's a shame that their only great product seems to be an ISA every year. If only their savings rates could be as good as their lending rates!
