Good Points

Can crank music at work and your cube neighbor can't hear it.

Bad Points

Poor design of the swivel housings by Sony with no redesign of the poorly designed part in the last 7 years to fix the problem.

General Comments

Here's the way to fix the problem with the swivel plastic breaking and Sony not supporting the problem and replacing/fixing defective units...

First of all, this goes against my ethics, but since Sony is operating without ethics, I figure I won't be bringing myself any bad karma from this suggestion. Not to mention, that I bought my first pair back in 2001, and I work as design engineer, so I understand what companies typically do when they have a part that is designed poorly - they redesign it, offer the part as a replacement part and fix any units that have the old poor designed part on them with no questions asked. And, with a part that has as high of a failure rate as this one does, they typically will fire or demote the knucklehead who is costing them all this money in returns.

But, since Sony is doing none of this, here's my solution....

Buy a new pair, remove new pair from packaging, put old pair in packaging of new pair. Wait til the last week of your return period so you can explain any wear and tear (after all you're probably returning some really old stuff so have a good explanation) should the return person question their condition, then take them back and get your $$$ back.

Problem solved until Sony starts getting enough units returned to them to catch on at which point they'll make your local retailer examine each pair more closely before accepting them as a return item.
