General Comments

My father received a letter today form Budget Car Insurance advising him that he had no insurance cover as he had not renewed. As he was not in a position to call them himself, I called on his behalf.
I gave them the policy numbed on the letter, to which I was advised that he had no cover. I asked the girl to check to see if they had him on their computer system twice, to which I was told no they didn't.

I asked her to check again, as I had actually witnessed my father renewing his insurance (this was currently 2 minutes into the call). She returned to me about 12 minutes later to advise that he was in fact covered but on a different policy number. I told her I was unhappy with waiting an extra 12 minutes to find that he was covered, when this should take (and was proved later) no more than a few seconds to find his policy by entering his name - I asked to speak to a supervisor, after getting waffle from the advisor. 25 minutes after the call had started (to an 0870 number which Budget make 3.7p per minute from) the call ended - I had hung up cos I was fed up waiting.

I then found an 0800 number for getting quotes from their website, and spoke to another advisor AND a duty supervisor. This call lasted another 20 minutes (but at least this one was free) and during the conversation they paid no attention to my complaint about waiting so long for them to check my father was insured on another policy, but rather concentrated on facts they chose. I was advised that my father should have told me he was on another policy number, that he should not leave his documents in a locked box and take the key to work, AND that perhaps he should stay home in future.

To summarise I got nowhere with the complaint, and will not get the £1.76 rebate I asked for to reimburse for the cost of an unnecessarily lengthy call.
