Good Points
The car is solid, well built and very comfortable to drive, regular and thorough servicing is the key too happy ownership. Take your time and look for great history on the Explorer you are buying, check for noise at start up,engine rattle and again and 2500 revs- this is probably chain guide related.
Bad Points
regular faults in models, 95-2001 are balljoints and timing chain tensioner and guides noise- poor design regarding the timing chain guides-THEY ARE PLASTIC!
General Comments
Ford UK have no clue at all about the Explorer. In the States, service recalls, and faults that are repaired under general service, or extended issues, such as the timing chain are covered- here in the uk THEY ARE NOT.....Ford seem to have forgotten about the Explorers they SOLD in the uk in that period. There are a great many Ex owners here still, we get help and advice and parts/service from each other..............SHAME, if it was not for the fact that I/we love our cars, they would be scrapped by now!
