General Comments
The Sheraton Sharm HOTEL. ***IMPORTANT*** Make sure, if booking this hotel, that you find out exactly what kind of accomodation you will be staying in. The "Resort" is separate from the "Hotel" and is not shown in ANY brochure or website. We arrived, and were shown to a backpackers' dorm-type room, about 7mins walk from the Resort reception, which was not as clean as one would expect, had a non-working fridge, pancake-flat pillows, no kettle or bath and a defective shower. After the powercuts finished, our visit to the main Hotel reception established that it would cost $60 per night to move to the main hotel. The Thomas Cook rep, although sympathetic, was unable to be of much assistance, except to facilitate our move to a room closer to the reception/restuarant, which contained a fridge which was able to chill its contents to around 5 degrees below room temp. and a shower with an automatic function of changing the water temp from red hot to freezing cold and back again at will.

The FOOD. Easily the worst aspect of the hotel. Considering this was an international chain hotel, albeit with Egyptian management, the food was a disgrace. At breakfast, the scrambled egg was the only palateable item - it was accompanied by a number of lukewarm or cold items whick I would not even expect to see in an Afgan YMCA. This standard of food was typical of all the hotel's restaurants, which had limited menus, usually with several dishes unavailable, those dishes which were available usually not served as per the the menu description or, due to the non-availability in that part of the world of many essential ingredients, prepared in a most substandard manner.

The STAFF. Although friendly, seemed to have little idea of the requirements of western guests, an impression borne out by one of the European staff at the hotel who was about to resign out of frustration.

Naturally, peoples' standards differ, and I spoke to British guests at this hotel who had few complaints. In my own opinion, this hotel, in particular the food, was a great disappointment, BUT, having visited the Crowne Plaza Hotel and finding similar standards, I can only assume that these levels are typical of all "4 Star" hotels in the resort and, having visited the "5 Star" Hyatt Regency and found much better, although not up to the standard of any other 5 Star establisment I have visited in the world, food and surroundings, can only concur with the member of staff at the casino I visited, who informed me that the Hyatt, along with the Four Seasons, are the only two "quality" hotels in the resort.

Do not forget just where you were holidaying and remember what was behind the hotel.

We have just returned from the Sheraton Sharm and found it quite the opposite from your comments and the food was exellent, we did not expect English food and there was a good variety of other countries dishes. You cannot expect English meals where ever you go in the world.
