Light weight, very low recoil factor, fantastic accuracy, easily upgradeable, cheap ammo available. Great looker
Very high tolerances=lots of cleaning required. does not work well with foreign made ammo
My best mate own a bushmaster AR15 full length barrel for a year now and we have put this rifle through its' paces!
The fit and finish is comparable to any higher end model such as the colt. Disassembly and cleaning is more of an issue with an AR15 than it is with an AK or SKS. Many parts, many small parts that foul quite easily and need constant attention. But any shooter should be used to keeping clean firearms.
Accuracy in this assault rifle is unparalleled as it is capable of striking targets accurately up to 500 yards!
Recoil is managed by the spring/plunger that is located in the stock and absorbs almost all of the recoil, instead of the shooters shoulder.
Every manufacturer on he planet that makes gun accessories makes parts and upgrades for this rifle. These are a bit more expensive that those available for the AK47, but this is a much more expensive weapon than the AK and its' variants.
Like many other American firearms, this rifle is very particular about the ammo that it accepts. I bought a bulk allotment of WOLF .223 ammo for this rifle and it just would not accept it. Extraction was the main problem because this weapon was not made to grip the coated steel that WOLF manufactures.
I had he same luck with my .45 acp pistol and wolf ammo.
SO, rule of thumb-American gun, American ammo.
There is an adjustable rear diopter that adjusts from long distances to short distances, easily.
the forward assist is a standard feature on all of these rifles since the beginning of Vietnam as well as chrome lined barrels.
a classic icon of American might and a must own for militaria enthusiasts.
I would, however opt for the M4 carbine(shorter barrel) version.
the extra barrel length offer no extra benefit to accuracy, only adds weight and length.
also, 'uppers' or upper receiver upgrades are available for more powerful cartridges, but these parallel the cos of the firearm.
new, this rifle was just about $900.oo with case and a few rounds of ammo
