Action packed, feeling of dread: lonliness
not true to the original. Lacks substance
This movie is Hollywoods second attempt, after the Omega man (Charlston Heston) to translate Richard Mathesons apocalyptic vampire novel to the silver screen.
Although Will Smith gave a very convincing performance, the movie felt very shallow and left me wanting more.
More character development main and supporting cast, more survivalism, etc.
Also, the movie cast the nightwalkers as some type of ultra violent zombies. In the book, they were still intelligent and could speak, but looked awful.
This movie did shed an interesting light on the question "if you were the last person on Earth, how would you spend your time?"
The dog in the movie took on a different role that the dog in the book, but that was very dramatic and interesting.
I felt that this movie focused on more action and special effects and was little on substance. For example, in the book, Rob Neville tried killing zombies ONCE with a pistol and it had no effect.
Yet, the producers felt that this movie would not have the same draw unless the main character carried an arsenal with him at all times-including grenades.
As with most book based movies, it cannot always be true to the book storyline or be AS good as the book itself.
This is a great rental and does have some worthwhile moments. Rent it, don't buy it.
