Good Points

Great level of spec and a pretty quality-like interior. Plenty of rear leg room for my two children (5 & 6). Smooth engine, although a little tappety at times. The front heated windscreen is a brilliant feature, that instantly clears the screen. Steering is responsive and feels safe. Overall build quality is solid, apart from a few niggling squeaks from the front trim and rears doors. The auto gear change is predictable making for an easy drive, although it switches a lot if you're on country roads between 40 - 60 mph. Massive boot with more than enough room for a family of 4.

Bad Points

The electric height adjustment on the seat doesn't go low enough (I'm 6'). Fuel consumption is not great, I'm getting 29mpg in general countryside driving with 32mpg on a careful motorway run. Front suspension bushed are a problem, with both of mine needing replacing within 3 years of the last set being fitted: the job only costs € '£100 a side, but it's a cost!

General Comments

I bought this Ford Mondeo 2.0i 16v Ghia auto two months (1'500 miles ago) after reading some used car reviews, so it's still early days. So far I'm pretty impressed, although I did trade-up from a Seat Cordoba so we're not talking about premium cars here!
All in all, having driven plenty of hire cars, this car does everything you'd want for a family without any unnecessary bells and whistles. If you're not a brand person and are happy to buy on spec and performance I'd put this up against a 5 series BMW (its much bigger than a 3 series).

Theres something wrong if you're only getting 32mpg on a careful motorway run. My 2 litre gets about 38 on A roads, 45 on a careful motorway run and I even managed 50 once on a 40 mile motorway trip.
