Bad Points

Almost impossible to contact in writing (they keep their addresses a closely-guarded secret), May craftily add on payment protection without you asking. Will send you "agreed loans" urging you to take out extra finance ("Just sign & return"....etc)


General Comments

The only reason I took out a Black Horse loan is that I took advantage of an interest-free finance offer when I purchased a new settee, and they were the provider. After I received the agreement, I noticed that the payment protection had been added as a matter of course. I contacted them by phone to be told that it was the fault of the furniture retailer, and my problem was with them . In effect, they suggested that they were powerless to cancel their own insurance! I contacted them a second time, to be told that the insurance had been sub-contracted to another provider, and it was them I had to deal with. As this just seemed like obfuscation to me, I thought I'd ask for a settlement balance, pay the lot off and be done with it. Could I find an address to write to? In a word, no! Even their call-centre didn't seem to know where they were based. After much messing about, I finally got them to cancel the insurance, but only after mentioning a certain radio/internet consumer expert.
