Good Points

Timeless original design, raw but amazing handling, lightweight stiff chassis, all in all the coolest hot hatch on the road setting the standards for years to come!

Bad Points

Youngest cars are now 25 years old so you're going to get some rot! in my experience places where they tend to go are: the spare wheel well, around the rear arches and sills (look for bent and creased sills from where the car has been jacked in the wrong place) also they rot around the scuttle panel if water has been trapped behind windscreen seal. Sunroof channels go if drainage holes are blocked. you get the point! basically the mk1 was made to last, but obviously after 25 years of thrashing about, which a lot of them have been, you are going to find some rusty panels! just make sure you look around before you settle on a heap!

General Comments

In my time as a driver I have owned 10 mk1 golfs. having worked as a mechanic and driven many different cars ranging from TVRs to sunny gti-r's at the end of the day the car I want to be driving is the mk1 it truly is a legend of a car!
