The Xbox 360 is an excellent console. Graphics and Sound superb.
I use mine with a 22" VGA screen and Bose Headphones/Speakers.
I like Xbox Live and the rating system.
That silly little cover that covers the USB connectors should be on the back. My cover actually fell off on delivery and I had to access the MS website on advice how to replace it. I called the Tech Support centre and got an Indian guy who couldn't understand my problem. I sorted the issue myself in the end so it didn't matter that much. The wireless controller is great BUT can get tiring to hold after lengthy game play due to the weight. (batteries)
I also have a wired controller which is better for extensive gaming. Also, I wish the 20 Gig drive was a 40 Gig and the 120 Gig optional HD is over priced. A user ought to be able to attach their own external USB drive to save downloads from XBox LIVE.
I have not had any overheating, ring of death or freezing issues. Only once or twice when playing a legacy game on it (Halo 2) All other games, Halo 3, COD 4, Gears etc are great. I have used consoles for 15 years now and I suspect that the processors and cooling needed are insufficient to run a large 40" HDMI TV and play online for more than several hours at a time. This may contribute to the overheating/ freezing issue for some people. I usually let my XBox cool down after a couple of hours game play and then restart later. They do get hot and the fan can get loud. Don't bother with those extra 3rd party cooling fans you can attach as I have read too many bad reviews of fried XBox's with those. A normal desk fan will probably help though I have never needed one. Stand the Xbox vertically not horizontally to help with the flow of air in the vents above and below the unit.
So, do I recommend the Xbox 360? Absolutely.
