Good Points

In theory its a relatively cheap reliable service (if its combined with the home phone service)

Bad Points

Theory is very different to practice-
Real speeds are slow
email doesn't work -not just for us, apparentley its an issue for many of the post offices customers
customer service is poor (they sound friendly but cannot help you and just pass you from person to person until you get bored and hang up or lose your temper - upon which you get transfered into the queue). Customer service is not 24 hour despite what they claim. Outside of hours someone records your complaint or issue and claims that someone will contact you.

General Comments

The whole broadband ISP market seems to be a minefield. With many people complaining about just about every company out there. From my experience alone I wouldn't advise you not to go with the post office. The post office is still a very inexperienced broadband company and seems to have lots of problems. If it works for you great but beware you may be in for a frustrating time if it doesn't quite work out.
My only wish is that the regulators would start clamping down on some of these companies, especially for some of their appalling customer care and failed service provision.
We paid '£25 for a wireless router which never turned up. Despite complaining about 15 times regarding the wireless router, and being promised numerous times that someone who could answer our questions would phone us back (which never happened). We finally managed to talk to someone who said they would arrange for another router to be sent....Of course it still never turned up but they did send us another modem which is not what we asked for and not what we need. After numerous calls we finally spoke to someone today who says they no longer provide the upgrade to a wireless router with our tariff and the deal ended the previous month. As we ordered the router over a month ago (during the period that the router deal was still offered) this should not have affected us. They could not even tell us if we had ever been billed for the wireless router or not. Their only advice was that if we had been billed for the router then we could still get it if we upgraded accounts. They are completely unhelpful and if you argue with them they just transfer you into a queue.
When we registered a formal complaint their response was that they do not consider these to be core services so are not required to be provided. My father wanted to transfer to the post office due to it being advertised as hassle free and on the basis that he received the email service. My interest in transferring was influenced significantly by the cheap upgrade to a wireless router. However, the post office's view on the matter seems to be that if its too much hassle for them they don't need to supply it.
