I have just come back from a seven day cruise end of January 2008, on the Terramar having booked the holiday through Thomas Cook. The boat only has 20 suites whereas most of the others tend to have more. This was a holiday that I have always intended to undertake as Egypt is the biggest outdoor museum in the world. Everybody knows about the Valley of the Kings which is awesome, but Abu Simbel is equally impressive, and well worth the money, the flight being about 30 mins. For the whole seven days you are either on the boat or on a visit so you do not get an opportunity to browse the shops. If you drink it is advisable to take it with you as you cannot buy it there, and if you want mixers then buy them on the boat. Apart from the Egyptian pound the most negotiable currency is dollars followed closely by the UK pound so try and take low denominations. Our guide who was a double for Kojak, was brilliant with a dry sense of humour.
