The intriguing plot makes for quite an interesting story. Several unexpected surprises leave the reader guessing up until the end. The background, focusing on an alien invasion, zombies, and human survival, are a puzzle-piece fit to the science fiction and horror genres.
The book is a little on the longer side and the narrator tends to repeat himself on several occasions. This repetition may have been intended for character development, but it can become a small nuisance from time to time. Also, while there are only a few major characters, there is an excessive number of minor ones which can get confusing at times when skim-reading.
"The Anomaly" is a book that joins a list of modern-day apocalyptic literature. Its detailed action sequences, focus on the narrator's thought processes, and suspenseful moments make it a terrific pleasure read. While certain elements of the story can become tedious, they are only mild background noise to what is otherwise a terrific book. Fans of science fiction and/or horror authors, such as Stephen King or Richard Matheson, will likely find it to be of great value.
