Audience gets to experience events first hand through a single camera making it feel a lot more real than other monster films.
Shaky camera, might be too full on for some people, plot is simple.
I can see why some people may be disappointed by this film as the plot basically consists of the main characters trying to get away from a monster, however I thought it was really well made. A far cry from those films of the same ilk - Godzilla, King Kong etc; Cloverfield is a harrowing depiction of fear in the face of destruction and in parts I actually forgot that it was a fictional monster that they were trying to run away from. This is mostly owing to the fact that the movie is shot from a single camera perspective, so we get to experience events at ground level the whole way through the film, and only catch glimpses of the beast in action every so often. The overall effect is shaky, full on and frighteningly real.
A great piece of film making in my view, but don't go see it if you've a predisposition to become easily nervous/nauseous/dizzy as it's relentless.
