Good Points

Looks good, excellent handling and brakes. Surprisingly practical.

Bad Points

Driving position is a little strange and the lack of adjustment for the steering wheel (which is too low) makes getting comfortable - and in and out - awkward. Retractable headlights look good closed but are a pain to keep aligned. The wipers are built for LHD, so there is a large unswept area in front of the driver.

General Comments

My Porsche 928 had been in a minor front-end collision, and was bought by a friend of mine who had intended to restore it. His circumstances changed, so it sat idle under a tree for three years gathering dirt and mould. I took pity on it and took it on as a running restoration project. It took ages to get it clean, but after a new set of tyres, a tiny amount of welding, a new set of engine belts and a few electrical and mechanical parts, it now looks good and runs nicely. The engine feels tough and very torquey, and the gearbox, although a bit obstructive when cold, is positive and meaty, which makes driving it a pleasure. The brakes and steering are confidence inspiring, and it's fairly comfortable. It was a bit creaky to drive initially, but now the suspension and dampers have had some exercise, the ride is taut and supple. The electrics have suffered from standing outside for so long, but it's a fine machine, and something of a connoisseurs car - the performance of a 944, but the understated looks of a 924 - although the bigger standard wheels and tyres than the 2-litre 924 give it a more purposeful stance. Overall, it is a very nice, well balanced and quick gentleman's carriage.
