General Comments

having recently returned from a 14 night holiday at the Kombo beach hotel to the wonderful british weather i wish we were back out there. My wife and i have now been to the Gambia 4 times in the last five years and this was our third stay at the Kombo beach hotel. As always our stay at this hotel was superb, the staff always make you feel very welcome the hotel is clean and has a good variety of nice food. We stay b+b as we like to visit local restaurants in Kotu and senagambia. This was the first time we have visited in January and apart from a couple of days that started out cloudy, the weather was up to the low 90s most days with blazing sunshine. We have always travelled with gambia experience and their rep who has now worked there for over 20 years was as helpful and pleasant as always. one thing we noticed this time was when we attended the welcome meeting on our first morning, they no longer take the newly arrived holiday makers on a short tour outside the hotel which they used to do to show people the local market, bars and restaurants and was a chance to meet the local guides. Having been good friends with one of the local guides and his family now for the last 5 years, he told us that the stopping of these tours has made a negative impact on the amount of business the guides now get.
We love visiting the Gambia and will do so again and would recommend it to anyone. The bumsters do get alot of bad press and sometimes they can be a bit anoying but once they get the message that you are not interested they will move on. Do make use of the local guides, not only can they show you the real Gambia without it costing you a fortune another plus is that if you are with one of the guides the bumsters tend to leave you alone. All in all it was a wonderful holiday and at this time of year it was great to get away from all the rain in England.
cant wait to go again!!!!!!
