BMW 5 series SE Auto 2000cc.
I have had the car from new September 2000, it has now covered only 27,000 miles. It is a quiet and comfortable car, good in the town and motorway driving. Very good road holding and execellent brakes.
I tow a twin axle caravan weighing 1500 kg it has no problem towing and if left to the criuse control at 60 mph it will do 22 mpg. This is the 4th BMW I have had and none have sufferd any major problems. My next car will be a 5 series or X5 they are very good cars.
The cost of servicing is probably my biggest moan.
Items that needing attention are, Rattle in rear door and speedomitor housing, rear cup holders needed changing, heater temperature panel switch cracked, leak on rear door and rattle from rear brake back plates.
Over all the BMW 520i SE (E39) is an excellet car, not quick of the mark but will return 40 mpg at 70ish mph if left to the cruise control. It handles very well and only feels a bit big when parking in a narrow space, but the parking sensors are very acurate.
My car has the xenon headlamps which seem a bit dim on dipped beam.
