General Comments
I have always paid my credit card bill in full and on time, but during the holidays I was away for two weeks. Chase sent a bill with a due date just two weeks later, so when I got home I paid the bill right away. The bill was due January 1st, but I paid in full on January 4th. They charged a $39 late fee. Most other companies have a grace period and wouldn't charge anything. Then they charged finance charges on top of the late fee. I quickly canceled the card as soon as I saw the finance charges and paid off the balance. They later sent another bill for additional finance charges. They said it was because they accrued daily. The bottom line is that I used this credit card for 4 years without any problems -- I paid no finance charges because I always paid my bills on time. Due to a vacation, I paid one bill late by 3 days. That resulted in nearly $100 in fees -- totally unjustified.

This is standard practice. I had it happen with my bank. They waived the fee, but you still have to pay the interest.
