Good Points

Great picture quality when using an upscaling DVD player via HDMI.

Bad Points

Absolutely appalling detailing in dark scenes.

General Comments

Freeview/Digital picture is acceptable. The other reviewer is absolutely right to say that the settings need a lot of tweaking to get the best out of it. Not sure what he means when he says the Freeview upscales to HD - not possible.
Comes into its own when playing back DVD's. I can't comment on playback via standard SCART connection. I have a Cambridge Audio DVD86 player hooked up via HDMI and it is stunning.
The sound is mediocre, but a simple L/R lead will wire it through your stereo even if you don't have a fancy AV receiver.
What lets this telly down is the contrast and detailing in dark/night scenes. Forget about watching what is occurring onscreen - it blacks out. A film like 'Alien' is an exercise in frustration.
If you like your films big and bright then yes - this TV's got it going on. If you like dark Sci-Fi and Film Noir, get something else - there's better out there.
In spite of that this TV still represents extremely good value for the money. I bought mine when £599 was the cheapest price, and despite the contrast issues I have no regrets about paying that because when it's good it's very good.
