Good Points

You are right, these books are wonderful. They are perfect books to just pick up and start reading when you need some familiarity and need to escape into a world apart from your own. I am 17 and though i know these books are way below my reading level I still enjoy them. I only wish I would have discovered Tamora Pierce earlier so that I could have had twice the enjoyment time.

Bad Points

General Comments

Alanna and her twin brother Thom both have the gift. Thom, being a boy, has the choice to either go to school to study his gift or go become a knight. The only choice Alanna has is to go to a girls school and learn how to become a "proper lady." But Alanna dreams of becoming a knight. The twins use their looks to their advantage, and Alanna gets to go to Corus and learn how to become a knight. Their father, being tied up in his own work, never realizes what Alanna has done. Alanna knows that girls aren't accepted to be knights and so she must keep her real identity a secrete. She works through her years as a page and squire and as she turns into a woman it becomes harder and harder to conceal who she really is. Her closest friend, Jonathan, the king's son, eventually guesses who she is and she shares the secrete with several other of her friends. jonathon and her share many adventures including one where they battle together using their gifts of bright solid blue and purple. There are many events that were as readers take part in. At one point for a while she believes she is falling in love with jonathon...until she meets George, the theif. It is a grand adventure and though easy to read, anyone would enjoy it.

This book is the best I've read in ages! Though I'm not really into romance, I find this read an excellent one. Once I started to read it, I felt as though it had put a "spell" on me. If I hadn't had to return it to the library, I would have read it at least 4 more times!!
