General Comments

I have read the comments on this car much to my amusement. I am not a boy racer, but trust me I can drive and I have had more cars than most. Most of comments respond to comments already made by others.

Performance... From 2ltrs and 16 valves I expect more but the grunt is adequate and more importantly is well balanced in accordance with the brakes. To the gentleman who was talking about the Golf, I had a Mk2 GTi 1.6, and the XSI would have made a better MK3 Golf than the Golf did. The Golf GT1 may have been quicker, but it wasn't loaded down with side impact bars and airbags. As a fun car, the MK3 Gti is not very good. The XSI is fun and has great handling.

Economy... Like a woman, if you treat your XSI gently she will be good to you, if you thrash her around, then she will make you pay! Yes, I admit the car is a bit thirsty. There ain't no Golf on the planet that does 45 to the gallon without a 'D' in it's name. You have got to look at horses for courses, I once had a BMW 325 sport, you could get 25 to the gallon if you had Miss Daisy as a permanent passenger.

I wouldn't buy a 306XSi new and if I bought another one it'll probably be a 1.8 as opposed to a 2.0 but... I paid £900 for a 1998 car and I have really thrashed it... oh and I have taken my 74 year old mother shopping.

If I did the £900 at Disneyland it's over in one weekend and I've got no resale value.

And finally... My 22 year old daughter can get insurance without remortgaging her house..
