General Comments
The story of Briony Tallis is followed from the age of 13 to the age of 77.
The story has four parts.
In the story we find out that Brioney has a very vivid imagination which gets others into trouble.
She comes from an upper middle class family.
She longs to be an author which in the end she accomplishes.
The title atonement gives the impression that a character is going to/try to atone for a sin.
My personal opinion is that by the end of the novel she has not done this and everything she does is just for her own conscience. At the beginning we learn of a play Briony has written the trials of Arabella during the epilogue we hear of this play being performed which i think is a really nice touch to the end of the novel.
The chapters in part one are told from different character's points of view which allows you as a reader to be able to get more into the minds of each character as an individual.
It's a must read.
