Good Points

Apparently relatively good value for money.


Bad Points

Cover renewal done automatically without client's authorisation.
Automatic cover renewal more expensive than new cover.


General Comments

I cannot comment on the quality or speed of their road assistance service, as I have not needed it so far. My review concerns solely their account management practices. I started my cover in November 2006, for £60. One year later I realised that my cover had finished and since I did not receive any offer for renewal, I bought the same cover online for £67. Since this was a new cover, I did not get the no-call-out discount. However, when I received the bill from a credit card I am no longer using, I realised that they had already renewed my cover automatically. The cost was £70, even though I had 1 year's worth of no-call-out bonus. The renewal documents had gone to my old address (hence I did not see them) but they decided that no response from me meant authorisation to proceed. Their customer service cancelled the new cover and refunded the fee swiftly. However I have to put two objections:
1. Why did their online system not warn me that a cover for the same car already existed?
2. Why do they renew policies without my authorisation (it is written in their terms and conditions that they will do so, but the online form does not offer you a choice to opt out)?
3. Why don't they seek approval before receiving money from the credit card. Even though their terms and conditions state that they will renew automatically, I have not authorised them to charge the same card! Therefore, my advice: when you buy their cover, send them an email, fax or letter the very same day requesting that they do not automatically renew your cover without your express agreement and that they remove your credit card details from their system. Make sure you get a response.
