Good Points

Good power, durable, accurate with some modifications, can easily be modified with an abundance of aftermarket parts

Bad Points

strong trigger, the stock can become loose easily, no scope rail, can use some modifications out of the box

General Comments

In stock form this is a great gun to just nail cans with. It is accurate enough out of the box to provide years of enjoyment. It could also be used to harvest a bunny or squirel if needed. Overall in stock form this gun is an entry level .22 caliber "fun gun"

The real strenghts of this gun can be expressed with a little modifications. The gun is built in such a way that it can be easily disassembled and tuned up. There are lots of resources on how to modify this gun as well as lots of places where you can get aftermarket parts. I recommend that if you want this gun to be tack driver then you perform the following:
1) install a metal breech with a scope rail
(www.crookedbarn.com has a good one)
2) install a bolt with an extended probe
3) perform a trigger job to reduce trigger pull
4) install a longer barrel (20-24")
5) recrown the barrel
6) get a stronger hammer spring

After performing the following on my gun I was getting about 600fps at the barrel

This gun is my hunting gun because it is perfect for tight areas and it transports easily. All of the mods listed above can be performed with little gunsmithing skills and basic tools. All parts required can be purchased for under 100$.

The poor traits are solved by the modifications and you are left with a great gun for all your shooting needs.

You will fall in love with this gun's adaptabiity and size. It is a great go to gun for all shooting tasks

I just got my Crosman 2289 yesterday (Oct. 31, 03). I am hesitate to change the breech into aluminum one. Longer barrel might be a good point. How do you increase the velocity? Give it more than 10 pumps? Enlarge the air duct to increase the air flow. I would like to communicate with Da Boy to discuss the modification (tsengd@hotmail.com). I'm in Winnipeg.

Heh, the 22 series (2240, 2250xt, 2289, 2260...) get faster if you put on a longer barrel, especialy the CO2 ones.
