For your first foray into the Digital SLR market I would highly recommend the FZ8. After using Olympus cameras for some time I took the plunge and bought this camera. Even though its a 7.2m camera, it still has far better quality pictures than other excellent brand cameras with higher resolution.
Loaded with a 2gb memory card you could easily forget about how much free space you have left, it seems to be endless! For video recording there's a basic function which turns out surprisingly good results for such a well priced camera. Also surprising is the size and weight of the camera, being smaller than equivalent models from other manufacturers.
Been around the world with me over the past year and not let me down at a single stage! A must buy!
