The only good thing I can think of is that they've implemented a check-drop box in most branches, meaning that you don't have to queue if you want to pay a cheque in.
Bad Points
I've had no end of trouble from Abbey recently. Their latest game is that they have started to refuse direct debits I was setting up on a linked account for no apparent reason and it has taken literally MONTHS of calls to their call centre to find out why (none of the call centre workers could tell me - in the end I got an answer, though I've since found out it STILL isn't right - from the complaints line). It also seems that Abbey customers now need to ask Abbey's permission if they wish to travel abroad (I've travelled twice this year to places I FREQUENTLY visit and have been refused cash at the ATM - even though I entered the correct PIN every time and had NOT reported my card lost or stolen). Too many things can only be done by phone banking (to the point that you can actually wait in a queue at their branch, wasting your whole lunch break, only to find that whatever it is you need can't be done over the counter and that you have to call the call-centre instead), yet if you call their phone banking line and your query doesn't fit into a list of 4 or 5 very limited and basic options, you get through to an off-shore call center where their staff don't know how to do most things; on one notable occasion, the member of staff's English was not even good enough to understand the question "Are you able to tell me the time of day that some money went out of my account?"
General Comments
I've had it with Abbey - after 11 years they've finally upset me enough that I'm voting with my feet. If you're thinking of joining them, my advice would be to think again.
