General Comments
This Miele G646SC Plus dishwasher is the only one I know of which has a separate tray for cutlery. This gives more space. I did not want this feature when I considered this machine and tried to get the makers to swop the bottom tray with a lower grade machine which takes a cutlery basket. They wouldnt. In the end I bought a cutlery basket (25 euros) and modified it to fit. However I have never used it as I have found the tray is very useful not only for saving space but also for allowing the cutlery to be separated into knives forks and spoons in the tray. This is more fiddly when loading but saves times when unloading. So I now think it is a very desirable feature. The buttons are easy to program and the lack of automated programming makes it less likely to breakdown completely in my opinion.

Had one six years no problems. Washes really well. Sister-in-law lives in London and has had a few problems with hers due to the hardness of her tap water.

Thanks for the comments. I am having trouble setting up my Miele, lots of salt deposits left, think it is the salt cap.
Miele have been so helpful and positive. I look forward to a happy resolution of my problem. They are on the case now. My husband thinks I am obsessed with dishwashers! I just feel that if you are going to spend £490 on a bit of tin, then it should do what it says. Up til now, I could wash them more quickly and get a better result, by hand!

I own a very busy Bed and Breakfast and the Miele is great for general dishes and the cutlery tray is a blessing once you get use to it.
I have had a Bosch, Asko, AEG and Miele (2 dishwashers in my lastest kitchen (Asko & Miele)

Asko - well made - cleans very well - very quiet.
- Filter only needs to be cleaned once a week
AEG - Cleans very well - very quiet - filter annoying to clean - the quietest
Miele - Cleans plates and cutlery well and very quiet - filter needs to be cleaned frequently but easy.
Bosch - save your money. Very cheap. I had no control panel problems but the interior started to look dingy and the fine filter was starting to rust after 3 yrs.

Just bought one today, March, 2004, after a disastrous episode with a new Bosch machine. Will let you know how it goes. All I have to do now is get my hubby to install it.

What sort of problems has the sister-in-law experienced?? I am considering buying one of these machines but also live in an area with hard tap water.
