General Comments

I've had a Yamaha Tmax 500 for a few months now and really like it. I used to have an x9 125cc which I got rid of because of poor handling, and very poor reliability. The Tmax is in such a different league. It has really got me into riding again, and I will be planning some large trips soon.

The ride is very confidence inspiring: Very well grounded on the road, goes over bumps with no effort. It has a very low centre of gravity offering sure footed cornering. It is pretty heavy, but I think this adds to its stability and once you get it going it is well nimble. The seat is really comfy, and there is an alert but relaxed riding position.

Up to now the reliability has been faultless. Wheras my X9 would happily discharge its battery after not been ridden for two days (really) the Tmax will start first time even in frosty conditions.

The only real downside is 'bikers' attitudes to them by and large. I think they regard them as toys, or for OAPs (I'm 27.) Our friends on the continent have got it right, as I saw literally hundreds of them in Italy, Spain and France. But attitudes change rather sharpish over here when you twist the throttle at the traffic lights. Buy one and you will know exactly what I mean.

The last thing I have to say, is buy one that's 3 or 4 years old, because you will find that it will be in good condition without being overpriced.

I found this review helpful because... I am thinking of changing my 2002 Piaggio X9 500 for a new mega scooter

Specially found interesting the comment about the good value on a 3 or 4 year old one.
