The Air Arms TX200 MkIII in .177, throws a JSB Diabolo group of 25mm at >40yards.
Fantastic build quality and finish (even in Beech) the lazer chequering is perfect and aids in fore-end grip.
A heavy, stable platform that can DEFINITELY out shoot me!
In my opinion is is a bit loud on the shot, but nothing has lived to be startled by this phenomena.
So no bad points actually!
I bought the Air Arms TX200 MkIII two years ago after an interval in air rifle ownership of 26 years. (I am a fifty year old 'born again')
My previous gun was a BSA Super Airsporter in.22 that I used exclusively for hunting rabbit. (It used to throw a nice consistent pellet)
Having had a loan of an Air Arms Camargue in .22 10 years ago, I was very impressed with that animal. A big, heavy sidelever of very good build quality.
I wanted a springer, as I knew that they had improved dramatically over the years and I also wanted the independence you don't get with a PCP.
I didn't want a gas ram gun either.
Air Arms springers were getting rave reviews.
TX's getting better reviews than Pro Sports, so, based on this, I got my full length TX in .177.
Right out of the box, the quality was apparent.
Build and finish were first class, the blueing as good as any I've ever seen.
A big, heavy gun that just sailed into the shoulder.
First thing I did was remove the action from the stock and clean off the 'transport coat' from the action.
NOTE. If you do remove the action from the stock, follow the instructions in the gun manual or on the Air Arms website regarding trigger guard screw/action screw removal and replacement order.
The stock was given a thorough working with stock wax (inside and out)
The gun has subsequently always been wiped over with an oiled rag after every use.
All pivot points get a tiny drop, as does the safety and breech port.
Blueing is still perfect and the gun has been soaked in rain a few times
The scope I have on it is a BSA 6-24 x 44 SWF.
(this brings the full weight up to >10lbs)
The gun has had thousands of pellets through it now, it is utterly silky smooth and predictable in operation.
It chronos at approx 11.6ft/lbs with JSB's
No problems whatsoever with this gun, safety engages every time.
I am by now very used to cocking and loading.
(I am right handed, and think that it could be an advantage to be left handed in this operation?)
Disengage the lever from the ball indent with left hand, a smooth left hand pull on the lever to full cock, keep hold of lever with left hand, rock gun over to put right side loading port on top, load pellet with right hand. (I have got big mitts and don't have any problems. Then right hand slides up forestock from behind hinge of cocking lever with gun on palm. Right thumb depresses anti-bear trap lever, left hand closes cocking lever all the way. Right thumb pushes safety catch off.
I am a member of a FT club in Scotland, and can stay with members who use pure FT PCP guns costing several times what my setup does.
At 25 yds I am confident of absolutely clean kills on rabbits from standing (if the wind isn't blowing too hard!)
This is another bonus of the guns weight, it resists getting blown about.
If I am prone, that range can be safely upped to 45yards, (in still air.)
Over that range, I leave bunnies alone, because although the pellet drop is very predictable, other variables can creep in.
I use H and N 'hollows' for short ranges up to 25 yards, JSB Diabolo for anything longer. The H and N's are pin straight in flight till they get to about 38 yards, then they go off on excursions. (so much so that at 38 yards I can get a .75" group with them, at 45 yards this group is now 2", any further than that and I need a 5 metre tape for grouping...........) They really do transfer energy at shorter ranges though, the smack they deliver certainly does the job.
All in all, I got an excellent gun that can outshoot me, can live with anything else on the FT front and put clean kills in the pot.
I will never sell it.
Thank you Air Arms, a stunning piece of kit
