Bad Points

Made with generic parts, the Compaq Presario 701FR is very weak, the computer overall is very weak.


General Comments

The computer is cheap...and the adage that you get what you pay for should be the motto of Compaq Presario's 700 series notebooks. They suck. Period. I've had mine for 2 years and already it has screwed me over. I need to replace the system board, which will cost me almost $500...which means I have to eat the $1300 that I paid for it (it costs much less now that it has been around for a while) and buy a new one.

    The Compaq Presario 700 series all have the the same problem. Shorting at the power connector. This is known as the Compaq Self Destruct Mechanism.

    Dont buy a new motherboard, I can repair these issues in the 700 series notebooks. These arent a bad unit, just a design flaw in the mainboard circuitry that can be rectified. email me for the deal of your 700\'s lifetime, 1/3 the cost of replacement and guaranteed against future connector issues.
