Review of Baikal MP654K

yes blackrat's recommendation

Good Points

All metal construction. A real Gun modified to shoot BBs - total realism. Last a lifetime. £59 - Total Bargain.

Bad Points

Fiddly to fire pellets - it can be done 'single shot'.

General Comments

Nothing comes close to the realism of this gun because it is a real 9mm converted to fire BBs. It is hewn from solid steel and will last forever. It even comes with a mini tool kit, spare seals and a packet of 250 steel BBs, all in a plastic foam lined case.

It fires lead BBs without modification (despite claims that you need to enlarge ports etc) and is extremely easy to load. The magazine is just like the real thing and if you buy a spare it is like a new gun as it replaces many of the important parts. Also the magazine holds the CO2 canister so can be easily warmed if rapid fire causes power drop off.

I looked at the Anics, Walthers, Crossmans, Daisys etc but they are much more expensive and toy like in comparison

In shooting it is totally reliable and, bearing in mind it is a BB gun, with good accuracy.

All this in a package that cost £59 ($93) - wow

Thanx alot for the review, I am an airsoft player, but I think I will have to get my hands on this piece to shoot at home. I was wondering the slide moves doesnt it? If this is true what kind of feel does the gun give, would be nice if it had a good 'kick' to it. Also I saw you bought it for £59 where was this, the only place I have found is charging £89,

    many thanx,

Yes the slide can be used to 'cock' the gun like a real one though it doesn't slide back on being fired - that would be the walther rep that does that. Got my gun from JS Ramsbottom in Yorks. They are on the net if you search.

This pistol is based on the Makarov 9mm Russian service pistol and is basically rebarreled and made to fire Co2. Its a sweet piece of kit and apart from being a little heavier than most Co2 pistols is a joy to own and shoot, I would also recommend an extra magazine this give the Co2 time to settle between reloads and also makes for a bit of 'realism' when using it.
As with all Baikal products it comes with a spare set of 'O'rinds and a cleaning rod and a small multi tool..very , very good value. Buy one now and you won't regret it at all, loads of fun for little money...

Thanks for the review. Very informative and helpful. I am seriously interested in getting hold of one of these guns for indoor target practice but wondered for safety reasons, whether it takes the plastic plinker type BB's. One shop tells it me it will but another that it won't. Has anyone had any experience with this or know the answer? If I'm not able to use this type of ammo, what precautions would I need to safely use steel BB's or would that be totally out of the question? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

Derekv...you can use plastic but don't as these can cause all sorts of problems eg fouling the barrel etc, stick to steel or copper head bb's. You can buy a speed loader for the bb's which helps to load the magazine. Another tip is every now and again is to use a 'crosman powerlet' instead of normal Co2 gas as crosman gas contains a little oil to lubricate the pistol. These powerlets a supposedley designed for crosman Co2 rifles and pistols, and some people say that they can cause problems too!! However in opinion a little of everything does not hurt, so I use one every now and agian and find its helps to keep things lubricated...and have not had any problems with this pistol or the others that I own..

Well the issue of plastic BBs is very similar to the issue of whether the gun takes lead BBs without modification as they are the same diameter. My own gun does but I believe some don't, hence the varying shop advice. It is a simple job with a 4.5 mm drill if yours doesn't.

On the issue of what safety measures you can take if using steel BBs sorry, I'm not sure- I use my gun exclusively outside and I think it depends on the specifics of where you shoot indoors as to what measures are needed (large hall possibly no measures needed, in the lounge dangerous whatever measures you take).

Please help. I cannot find this gun anywhere. Does anyone know a trusted website I can get one from? I am in the USA. Please email at heartspun2@aol.com with info. Thanks

I have had this pistol since 2002 & find it exceptional. My only problem is the difficulty in getting any replacement seals, especially for the top of the Co2 Capsule. It now blows so badly the capsule empties immediately I start tightening the screw!! I have just sent an e-mail to the makers in Russia & am awaiting their help. They have a site in English. from Peejay
