Delicious and very affordable.
Easy to open ring-pull aluminium container.
Not available in "normal" outlets.
Despite the attractive colourful "fish" logo on the ring-pull lid of the squat, elongated aluminium can, the English translation of the contents is on a self-adhesive label no more than one and a half inches square and seems to be stuck in place willy-nilly. This can obscure the logo and a casual observer not acquainted with the German language, will have no idea of the contents which are four varieties of beech-smoked fish in a vegetable oil. A happy quartet of filleted Mackerel, Herring and Huss with Spratts.
The smokey tang does not smother the flavour of the fish and even the oil caresses the palate with its own subtle character.
Anyone who likes Sardines or Brisling in oil will surely find THIS combination to their taste and I have not found any tinned fish at ANY price that even comes close to this seemingly unknown brand for consistent quality and flavour and which seems to be available only at the cut-price outlets e.g. the 'Everything a £1' variety.
At 50p for a 190g (drained weight 145g) can, we have an unassailable first-class product that would grace the hors d'oeuvres of the most fastidious gastronome.
I eat the fish with wholemeal bread - the variety with all the seeds stuck on it.
