Decent low down power which peaks at about 1600 rpm.
Stiff ride makes it handle well and is really good round corners if you keep in tight.
Cheap plentiful parts
Very tuneable as vauxhall performance cars tend to be
A great sleeper
Bye bye GTI,standard fast as Golf Gti 200 bhp and .4 second off Type R
Flat spots on gear changes(can be cured)
Traction, even with track control is a problem getting power down
Bought my V6 off E-Bay for £580,had to replace rear dics but for the price i was happy with it.
Had never driven one before, previous cars were nissan 200 sx, celica gti, nissan 200sx again and now this.
Was a bit sluggish in lower gears until I learnt how to drive it properly. The tall gears throw you off at first but once used to them are good.
First thing I did to mine when I bought it was an induction kit because I love the roar it gives, sounds like a scooby running lean...well almost.
Next thing was to buy an uprated eprom chip which to be honest I held hopes on...absolutely nothing but maybe smoother through the range.
Admittedly I was wrong there because as i'm sure you all know engines run lean and only put out about 1/3 - 1/2 they're full potential.
You want maximum power you have to spend a lot to get it though.
To cut a long story short my best 0-60 time is 6.7 and quarter mile 14.6.
I timed it all on a Beltronics Vector Fx2.
Not bad for a £500 car.
Thats the same as my 200 but i paid £1600 for that.
I like Vauxhalls as they are easy to tune and my brother and myself have a history with them as when I passed my test I had a MK2 SRI and then a MK3 SRI. He has had a MK2 SRI and now owns a Calibra 2L 16V and an Astra GTE 2L 16V with a rebuilt hige compression individual throttle bodied engine putting out 300bhp and with an extra 75 shot of noz to help it beat those pesky yamaha R1`s.
Buy a Cavalietr V6. Its a real sleeper car!!!
