General Comments

Comment by Arkansas Man::: About a year ago I purchased my Beeman R-9 air rifle from Pomona Air Guns in Califorinia, and I must say Steve, (the business owner) did me right. Now to truly appriciate a well built Beeman rifle you would need to shoot a Gamo for a couple years prior. I always had precision accuracy problems with the Gamos. But, the Gamo guns were good training but left me wanting. So I spent a little more money and got a lot better gun with the r-9. My r-9 shot 2600 shots and then the spring broke. I sent it to Beeman in California and they did a warranty job. Received it back and it shot terrible, elevation was inconsistant. I sent it back to Beeman and the second time they fixed it right and threw in a couple cans of FTS pellets. Sometimes you need to perservere. Well now for the accuracy, before the spring broke Iwas getting 1.25 to 1.75 inch groups at 50 yds. after Beeman did a supertune on the gun the second time in, I can now shoot .75 to 1.25 inch groups at 50 yds. The pellets I use are CPL'S and Beeman FTS. This gun will not shoot JSB's Exacts well. I have tried a few other pellets but go back to what seems to work best. I have a one piece Beeman mount and a Bushnell 4200 series 6x24 x40 Mildot air scope. The scope also came from Pomona air. I fully expect to purchase a few more of Beeman's air rifles in the near future. Now this r-9 is used for personal target shooting and hunting, but it was for hunting that I really wanted this rifle. I live in Colorado and I often hunt jack rabbits and this gun can take a jack out to 80 or 90 yards if I can hold steady for the off hand shot. Probably even further if I had a shooting rest. I have only about 400 shots on the gun since the supertune so I hope as it breaks in the spring that the accuracy will increase. Although I feel that the gun itself is now shooting up to its potiential, I find that pellet consistantcy is the final quest for better accuracy. I don't own a chrony but will in the future. I expect also to purchase a caliper and grain scale to try to extract better accuracy. All in all, I love this gun and it is a pleasure to shoot. I am into air guns for the longhaul so I will definitly learn more as time goes on. One note, my gun is sighted in at 50 yds. at about 5000 feet above sea level, when I go up to 10,000 feet the gun shoots 3.5 inches low. That is just a note, not trying to prove anything. I also enjoy squirrel hunting and just a good old fashion bird hunt now and then. But what ever I am doing with this rifle it is relaxing and enjoyable just the way life should be. Happy hunting.

Killing Jack rabbits at 80-90 yards are you sure you don't mean 30-40 yards? 80-90 yards is .223 range for Jacks. A Jack rabbit is a pretty tough animal.

Anyway good write up on the R-9!

Comment by Arkansas Man.... Hello sifu, yes i am certain about the distance and did you not know that rabbits are thin skinned animals? I love hunting jacks and have hunted them with my pellet rifles, my 22 LR Marlin model 60, and my savage 17 hmr. The area i hunt in is flat praire and it is no problem to see the jacks easily through your scope at farther than one can shoot. But yes all you have to do is practice a bit. One cannot learn to shoot long range unless practice is a part of your routine. I cut life size silhouettes of jack rabbits out of cardboard and practice a bit before season begins. Heck i even killed a crow flying with a gamo shadow 1000 that only had open sights. It only takes practice to shoot well. I have also killed many jacks running with my 17 hmr. just practice . cheers fb
