Good Points

Man, there isn't much to write home about. When the TV is working well, things are good.

Bad Points

Will never buy another Sony product again.

General Comments

Let's see... when I bought this TV new in 2002, it cost me three grand. At the time, the salesperson BEGGED and pleaded with me to get the extended warranty. I generally don't purchase an extended warranty with anything, so I opted out. The guy wouldn't hear of it, and he actually ended up giving me the warranty for 3 years. That should have been my first indication that something was wrong.

We then went through 5 tubes in the span of 3 years, which I thought to be ridiculous. The TV required frequent dialling in of the CRT voltage regulators by service techs for various red/green line problems. When the warranty ran out in late '05, each of the CRT's had been recently changed, so I didn't renew.

Mercifully, this TV finally bit the bullet this past Saturday (Dec,1, 2007) accompanied by a rather loud snapping noise, green screen of death, and a pretty quick shutdown. So, I got 5 years out of a $3000 TV. I don't expect a TV to last forever, but this one was pretty frustrating, and truthfully, the thing was a piece of rubbish. I'm finished with Sony forever, because I just don't trust them after this. I WISH that I had the sense to do the research on this model before buying it. If I had, I would have read about all of the line, flicker, and other issues that plagued it, and I never would have bought the thing.

I now have a 42" Panasonic plasma and I'm thrilled. If anyone needs a defunct 51" Sony to use as a boat anchor, give me a call. It's yours.
